Standard Wiring
In general, one can wire accessories using the color of the wires. Black is usually connected to the base post. Yellow connects to the constant full-voltage post. Red connects to the variable post. Green connects to a control switch. White connects to a stopping section using a #707 terminal/clip.
How To Determine The Date of an Accessory

Some A.C. Gilbert accessories were produced in 1946 and later, such as the #577 Billboard, #581 Girder Bridge, and #752 Seaboard Coaler. When you come across such accessories, a quick look at the sticker will give you a hint as to year of manufacture. The ones made in 1946 have the sticker shown on the right. There is no yellow line under the "AMERICAN FLYER" text.

Starting in 1947, and lasting until A.C. Gilbert's demise, the company started using the sticker shown on the right. These had a yellow line under the "AMERICAN FLYER" text.
