Articles - American Flyer Boxes

copyright © Vinnie Manjoney; used by permission.

When Vinnie Manjoney, a member of the Connecticut S Gaugers and the NASG, passed away in September 2022, fellow member Dick Kramer sent me a photo of Vinnie, and also this photo of the American Flyer typewriter, which Vinnie owned as part of his vast American Flyer collection. Curious as to why American Flyer would have a typewriter, I did some research.

Luckily, the photo clearly shows the U.S. Patent Office's patent number, which is "1-907-379", so I was able to look it up on their web site. I have copied the PDF to this web site, for your easy perusal.

We normally don't cover pre-WWII American Flyer, but this typewriter was patented in 1932, and was meant to be developed as a toy typewriter, which would be simpler and cheaper than a full-sized, regular typewriter at the time.
