Former Layout by Gary Carmichael (d)

Layout Name:

"Pittsburgh's West End"

Layout Status:

dismantled

Track Type:

S/Sn3/Sn2

Layout Style:

Single-scene, sectional

Era:

1900

Setting:

western Pittsburgh, PA

Railroad(s) Modeled:

PRR

Notes:

Gary is building a triple-gauge sectional display layout, modeling the Pittsburgh area called West End, including a portion of the longest cut-stone wall (5 miles long, still standing today). The layout will include a coal transfer operation that used only gravity. The plan is that once the 1900s version is done, he will modify it to fit a period several decades later.

This was a quick photo that Gary took of a mock-up of his layout that is currently under construction. The coal transfer tipple shown in the lower right-hand corner is about 90% completed.
