Notes:
The layout was fully scenicked with hardshell scenery. The A.C. Gilbert Oil Drum Loader and Mail Pickup accessories were included. The layout featured a scratchbuilt structure, Vulcan Iron Works, at the front of layout. It was the first structure Brooks scratchbuilt. Brooks added balsa wood ties to the Gilbert track for enhanced appearance. The S Gaugian article was Brooks' first one and he won that year's "Write Up Your Layout" contest held by the magazine.
Brooks' layout made the front cover of the magazine's issue.
The layout was designed to be used at Christmas time, so the center opening was large enough to hold a Christmas tree.
Who says girls don't like trains? Brooks' daughters are having fun with Daddy's layout.
