Notes:

Upon retirement, John wanted to return back to his model railroading hobby of his youth (see his other entry in the Layouts section of this web site). He hired a carpenter to build the L-shaped framework that serves as the base for his layout. John decided to use GarGraves for the track (including their flextrack), but continued to use the A.C. Gilbert AF turnouts he had preserved from his youth. The layout consists of two loops. John used burlap fabric (of various colors) for both his grass fields, as well as skirting around the edge of his layout.

John bought some 1:64 vehicles to help his layout have a more lived-in look.

John scratchbuilt this classic farm house from styrene plastic, based on a replica of an actual house he saw in a real estate advertisement, and later was able to photograph in detail.

The mountain was made from plaster. The mountain was covered with trees using his favorite method of painted thistles and pine cones, all harvested for free in the country.
