Karl solved the issue of limited space by looking up. His overhead shelf layout allows for two trains to be operated at the same time. Karl operated a G-scale parts business called Light Rail Products.

The NH electric train comes flying by on the foreground track.

As it continues on, a B&M train passes it on the background track.

Karl uses background, or shallow-relief, structures to create the ambience of his shelf layout.
