NorthWest Short Line found its Japanese builder with an open factory position, and so offered this first-ever S-scale brass import, a Jones & Laughlin Steel Co. 20,000-gallon tank car for moving coal tar around its steel-mill properties. There were only five prototype cars of this design. Decals were included, but the model came without trucks or couplers. Dick added HO-scale Kadee couplers. The product was reviewed in the November 1973 S Gauge Herald. Tom Lennon used older Enhorning Koppers decals to decorate his model.
