These are exterior-post trailers, which had doors on both sides, and were used for city-wide curb-side deliveries. The prototype trailers were made out of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum. They were used in the 1950s and 1960s. Fruehauf started in 1918 and closed its doors in 1989. Roy scratchbuilt a model of these, and then produced resin copies of that.
