This circuit board is for the AC or DC powered, non-sound version (part #653-X00????).

Self-tapping screw for contact strip.

The remainder of the photos apply only to the DC versions of these engines; AC and DCC locomotives were unaffected. For DC versions, Don Thompson reports that there were two kinds of eight-pin DC shorting plugs. They will both work, but one will cause the engine so run in the opposite direction. This first photo shows the normal DC shorting plug for engines without a speaker (part #653-X00???).

For some reason, the factory, on three road names of the first run of the SW9 locomotives, wired the motors to the wrong socket. The fix was a DC shorting plugs with the motor lead pins wired correctly. These plugs have a glob of hot-melt on top. You can see red wires in the hot-melt. There is also a version of this board with baby-blue wires; those are for the SW1 engines.

Matt Hogan provided additional photos of the DC shorting plug that he was able to purchase in 2024.
