These were released as part of the NASG's 2016 AF Commemorative Car, a CN&W flat car that came with 18 of these pallets as their load. They continue to also be available separately in a box of 4 pallets. They were available in decorated and undecorated versions, but the decorated ones have sold out. These are true-to-scale models.
Prototype Notes:
Each pallet holds a number of refactories. These are headed to a steel mill for relining of the soaking pits (or some other industrial usage). Soaking pits were used by steel mills from the 1920s through 1975. Pallets are decorated for the Chicago-based Plibrico Co., which invented clay-based refractories around the turn of last century and was a major supplier of these materials.
