The body is made out of plastic, and the mechanism uses a modified Athearn drive system. The kit was originally made in three versions: 4-wheel-drive, steel chassis; 8-wheel-drive, RTR brass chassis; DC, hi-rail. General Electric manufactured about 350 of these engines, which were capable of pulling 5 or 6 cars.
