Southern Iron and Equipment Company (SIECO) of Atlanta, Georgia created their first gondolas in the mid-1970s. In the early 1980s, Evans took over the company and modified the design of the gondola. The B.T.S. model represents one of the latter.

Thrall started building these in 1995 when approval was received for higher-capacity cars, so the standard height of a gondola's sides were raised from 5' to 5'6" increasing the capacity, hence the model name.
