Thrall started building these in 1995 when approval was received for higher-capacity cars, so the standard height of a gondola's sides were raised from 5' to 5'6" increasing the capacity, hence the model name. Thrall was bought out by Trinity Industries in Dallas, Texas, and they continue to produce these cars.
