This is an operating car that has two separate doors on one side, and a single center door on the other side. The 1953 and 1954 #974 were marked for "American Flyer Lines" on the single-door side, and just "974" on the two-door side. The Erie version, released in 1955 only, had the Erie road name, number, and data on the left side and the logo and data on the right-hand side of boths sides of the car. These cars came with a push-button controller, #712 Automatic Track Rail, four milk cans, and four crates.

This is the "American Flyer Lines" version of #974, which was identical to #734, except that this one has knuckle couplers, where as #734 has link couplers. This was taken from the 1953 catalog.
