Notes:
A bridge plate is used during loading of two or more cars. It allows the movement of trailers between flat cars. Each car has two, one on each diagonally-opposite corner. During loading they are lowered. When loaded, they are raised. This is known as "circus-style" loading, common in the 1950s and 60s.
