What is Joining the NASG

Joining the NASG is very easy and bring a range of benefits. Among the benefits are:

A subscription to the Dispatch: The Dispatch is the official bimonthly publication of the NASG. It contains information about current and recent developments in S. Regular features include new products, club activities, easy projects and modules. There are articles on S layouts, modeling ideas, convention activities and much more. The Dispatch covers all aspects of S including American Flyer, S scale and Sn3. In addition, the publication offers members a forum for ideas, complaints, etc.; lists upcoming events and covers NASG activities.

American Flyer Car Committee: This committee presently produces a custom designed paint scheme in agreement with Lionel. These cars are available only to NASG members.

NASG Freight Car Committee: This committee selects annually a limited edition run freight car from an S gauge manufacturer and offers it to members only. This car is available in either hi-rail (AF compatible) or scale couplers and wheels.

Conventions: The NASG holds an annual convention, generally in July or August, in different parts of the country. The convention features manufacturer and dealer displays, on-site modular layouts, contests, a banquet and layout tours. Some are held in conjunction with the NMRA Convention. There are several mini-conventions held regularly in regional areas, usually in the fall or spring.

S-MOD: The NASG has a division dedicated to the maintenance of module standards. This is a popular aspect of the NASG as modules are often set up at conventions and club gatherings. Layouts built to S-MOD standards are very flexible and many unique designs result. Module activities also provide builders and operators a chance for fellowship. A book on S-MOD standards is available from the NASG.

‘S’ Scale Standards: The NASG developed the track gauge and wheelset standards which are used in S today. The NASG sells track/wheel and coupler height gauges through its Clearinghouse.

Clearinghouse: NASG members have the opportunity to purchase a range of NASG labeled items including caps, pins, patches, T-shirts, and golf shirts.
