This is the pilot model built by Lake Junction Models owner Bill Hoss. This S model of a B&O wood caboose class I-1 or I-1a comes as a craftsman laser cut wood kit with brass etched parts, and cast resin stack, coupler striker plate, and draft pocket. No trucks or couplers included. The instructions are provided on a CD which you can print out. All three versions were first available from The Supply Car, who supplemented the kit with American Models trucks, Kadee couplers, Grandt Line AB brakes, and decals. These B&O built cabooses were first built in 1913 and up until 1923 with 438 being built all with the narrow end platforms. In later years they were rebuilt with the full width platforms and some had the cupolas removed to use as transfer cars. Models of all three of these versions are indicated as still available from Lake Junction Models.

This model came in two numbers, but for two different eras. This model has the as-built 15' wheel base. This one is for 1941-1945. These were imported from Korea (manufactured by Green Art Brass Model), and came ready-to-run, painted, and lettered with sprung trucks. Only Kadee S #802 or 808 couplers and maker lamps needed to be added. The B&O built six of this class in 1936 to 1940.

This wagon-top, bay-window caboose was built in 1939 as a class I-5B in the Cumberland shops but later the truck centers were lengthened to 19' from the original 15' and re-classed. The imported from Korea (manufactured by Green Art Brass Model) is for the 1945 to 1955 era of painting. It is ready to run only needing S Kadee couplers and marker lamps applied. This model came in five different eras of painting and numbers.

Chessie/B&O. This is a combination cupola and bay-window caboose. Note that we don't have a photo of the original Lionel Chessie car. The one shown in the photo was a car that was professionally repainted and lettered for the BN. Later Ted modified the caboose to add a miniature wireless color and sound camera that is powered by a 9-volt rechargeable battery. He added a toggle switch in the bottom of the car to open the circuit between the battery and camera to save the battery life (see Photo #2). While installing the camera, he had to drill out the rear window (see Photo #3) to allow the camera to peer out the rear of the caboose as it travels down the track.
