#500 Baggage Car was produced in 1952, and has two reported variations, namely the satin silver, as shown in the foreground in the photo, and the chrome finished variation. There is a report of a satin silver #500 Baggage Car with a #500 nameplate on one side and a #600 nameplate on the other side. The 500-series cars were all made in 1952 as uncataloged cars. The only source of the 500, 501, 502, and 503 satin silver cars is in the 1952 #434 uncataloged "Special Train Set", of which there are believed to be only about 100 to 150 sets produced, making these car very rare. The catalog numbers for all of the 500 series cars were assigned in March 1951. The satin variations are more rare than the chrome variations resulting in a price that is 1-1/2 times greater than the chrome cars, except for the chrome #501 which is extremely rare. The only source of the chrome #500 and #502 is from the 1952 #5205WCX uncataloged set that also contained a #405 Silver Stream Alco and a #661 coach car. All of the 500-series passenger cars are equipped with the spring assist link couplers (see second photo).
