The 962S was produced in 1954 in three variations. The first variation (shown in the photo) is painted silver over either a white or a black plastic shell (in this case it is a black shell). The second variation is painted silver over a chrome shell, most likely old stock from the 1953 product line. The third variation, which is the rarest of all three, is painted silver over a black shell. That particular car is a factory modification of the 1952 #502 Baggage Car. The word "PULLMAN" was painted over and that area of the car was re-lettered as "AMERICAN FLYER LINES". The #500 nameplate was turned over and the backside of the nameplate was marked "962 HAMILTON 962". Finally, the link couplers were converted to knuckle couplers all of which makes this car unique.
