The all-metal #716 hopper was introduced in 1946, and lasted until 1951, with six variations. Four variations were produced in 1946, all of which have and inside track pickup and black painted frames. The first variation as "American Flyer Lines" in the right indented area with "716" in the left indented area. The second, as shown in the photo, has "American Flyer Lines" in both indented areas. The third has "American Flyer Lines" in the right indented area and nothing in the left indented area. The last of the 1946 variations lacks the brake wheel. The fifth variation, produced from 1947 through 1950, was equipped with a third wheel pickup, and also has a black painted frame. The last variation produced in 1951 has a gray painted frame and a black link coupler weights.
