The 46-foot flat cars manufactured by American Models were claimed to be based on the 1930 USRA 46' cars. However, author Jeff English reports in the April 1999 issue of the NASG's Dispatch that those prototype cars were actually only 42 feet long. Upon further research, he found that the American Models cars are actually based off of the Chicago & North Western design, which, in the real world, was based on the USRA design, but stretched to 46 feet. Those cars were produced starting in 1927. Jeff did a thorough product review in the aforementioned magazine.
